Brea, CA - May 29, 2017 / ‐‐ Akitio, makers of premium, high quality external computer storage solutions, today unveiled the new Akitio Thunder3 RAID Station. This solution combines four essential functions every laptop user needs into one product, adding additional storage space, providing important interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet, USB and DisplayPort, recharging the battery and reading SD cards. All this is built into a single product that connects to a PC or Mac via Thunderbolt 3 interface.

“With the Thunder3 RAID Station, we created an all-in-one solution for laptop users that includes all the basic functions that are sorely missing on the ever smaller and more portable laptops”, said Richard Wright, VP of Sales & Marketing for Akitio. “Instead of having to buy multiple dongles, a docking station and some external drives, this product does it all and it’s as simple as connecting a single Thunderbolt 3 cable to the computer.”

The Thunder3 RAID Station can house two 2.5” or 3.5” SATA drives, which can be configured as RAID 0, RAID 1, SPAN or Non-RAID. It features two Thunderbolt 3 ports, a DisplayPort video output, a 2-port USB hub for legacy USB devices, a 1GbE Ethernet interface to connect the computer to fast networks, an SD card reader and it supports power delivery up to 27W. The second Thunderbolt 3 port on the Thunder3 RAID Station operates the same as a Thunderbolt 3 computer port by supporting Thunderbolt 3 (up to 5 daisy chained), as well as allowing users to connect USB Type-C devices (10Gb/s) such as external hard drives, and DisplayPort monitors.

Pricing and Availability

The Thunder3 RAID Station will be available in Q4 2017. For more information on the entire lineup of Akitio Thunderbolt 3 products please visit Akitio.com.

About Thunderbolt 3

Thunderbolt 3 brings Thunderbolt to USB-C at speeds up to 40 Gb/s, creating one compact port that does it all – delivering the fastest, most versatile connection to any dock, display, or data device. For the first time, one computer port connects to Thunderbolt devices, every display, and billions of USB devices. A single cable now provides four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of any other cable, while also supplying power.
