AKiTiO Thunderbolt 3 eGPU

The Intel® Skull Canyon NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK is a mini PC with integrated graphics that offers great performance for gaming and other multimedia experiences. It comes with the latest Thunderbolt™ 3 interface, which makes expanding the capabilities of this PC not only possible but also very convenient.

Naturally, the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity on the Skull Canyon NUC made us very excited and we wanted to see how much we could boost the performance with an external GPU to take the gaming experience to the next level.

In short, the results are amazing and all of it through just a little USB-C connector.

AKiTiO Thunderbolt 3 Cable

The Type-C connector is quickly showing up on both Macs and PCs. Industry experts are predicting that by the end of this year 90% of all new computers will be shipping with this new 12-pin reversible connector. But, the big question is what kind of performance does it offer?

USB Type-C allows for transfer speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second. Thunderbolt™ 3, on the other hand, also uses this same Type-C connector and allows for transfer speeds of up to 40 gigabits per second. The two ports and their cables look almost exactly alike and that is where the confusion lies.

AKiTiO Thunderbolt 3 Cable

AKiTiO today announced its 40Gbps Thunderbolt™ 3 cable. This cable delivers lighting fast data transfer rates for storage, single-cable docking, multiple 4K video displays, external graphics for high speed gaming, and Thunderbolt networking between computers.

Based on Intel's Thunderbolt™ 3 technology, this Thunderbolt™ 3 cable with the USB Type-C™ connector enables 40 Gbps bi-directional data transmission and reversible connectivity.

The cable supports up to 100W power delivery and multiple data protocols such as USB 2.0 (4.8 Mbps), USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps), Gen 2 (10 Gbps), DisplayPort 1.2, and PCI Express. Features

MyCloud App

The AKiTiO MyCloud App for iOS and Android allows users of the MyCloud personal cloud server to access their digital content stored on the MyCloud unit from a mobile device. Open the app and gain access to your music, videos, photo libraries and other digital documents no matter if at home or on the road.

The latest version of the MyCloud App for iOS (v2.6.0) and Android (v1.9.5) adds support for a port number after the device name, making it possible for users to setup port forwarding on their home network and login remotely via IP address or domain name (e.g. dynamic DNS services).
