[Neutrino U3] What kind of drives can I install and use with bus-power only?

When using bus-power, the circuit board and SATA to USB chip inside the Neutrino U3 use about 580mW or 0.116A. This means that the power consumption of the installed drive should be as follows.

  • HDD or SSD with power consumption of less than 380mA for USB 2.0
  • HDD or SSD with power consumption of less than 784mA for USB 3.0

Also, please keep in mind that depending on the computer, the amount of power that is available on the USB port might vary. If more power is available, bus-power might still be enough even if the above levels are exceeded.
