AKiTiO Thunder3 Duo Pro

The Thunder3 Duo Pro enclosures gave our storage Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, and though the speeds are nowhere near what Thunderbolt 3 is capable of given the limitation of the hard drives, it’s still substantially faster than USB 3 or Ethernet. The added flexibility of daisy chaining drives together with almost no speed degradation is useful as well. They look good, and do exactly what we need them to. Looks like we'll be keeping these around for a while. Read More...

Node

I was quite surprised by how easy it was to add an external GPU with this Akitio Node. On both the Yoga 720 as well as my own Macbook Pro (running Windows) it was really a plug and play experience. Games and other applications that can benefit from a faster graphics processor will immediately start working with it. Read More...

Node

The best feature? Its price. I know $300 is still a lot of money but compared to other options on the market, the AKiTiO Node is the most affordable all-in-one Thunderbolt 3 eGPU box. Another nice thing is AKiTiO’s support and involvement with the eGPU community. Many forum members have shared their stories and good experiences with AKiTiO’s customer service. Read More...

Neutrino U3.1

Neutrino U3.1

I think this product is great for what it is; a no-frills SATA-III SSD caddy that runs over USB-C. You can buy the Akitio Neutrino U3.1 for around $50. As a hard drive caddy for the most popular external SSDs available, it’s hard to fault it. It does one thing in an enclosure barely larger than the SSD itself: it’s perfect to throw in a bag and carry around with you. Read More...

At least with a pair of SSDs, the Thunder3 Duo Pro leaves no doubt that you’re getting just about the best SATA RAID performance possible. And, you get a DisplayPort port, good looks, as well as the fastest screw-down mounting system in existence. If the price doesn’t bother you, have at it. Read More...

AKiTiO Thunder3 PCIe SSD

Coming to the business end of the review, it can definitely be said that the Thunder3 PCIe SSD is a unique product - It is the only product we are aware of that can put the Intel SSD 750 to use in a direct-attach scenario. The key here is that the storage is not tied to a single computer, and a portability option is available. Such fast and massive storage is a boon for multimedia editors working as a team, or, across multiple locations. Read More...
